Honesty in Education
When dishonesty exists in education, children are left behind their peers in other schools and states. A dishonest education suppresses the full history of our country and limits scientific learning, which limits our children from a diverse workforce and makes them ill-prepared for the future. The consequences of limiting what our children may learn comes at a great cost and harm to our country. If we want our children to be the leaders of tomorrow, we need to provide them with the best education we can give them. That starts with honesty in education.
The only way to learn from the mistakes our country has made is to teach our children the honest history of our country. We cannot pick and choose the story of our country, it exists as it happened. Hiding our history from our children is denying them the rich lessons they could be learning from it. Failures only remain failures if we cannot learn from them, because they are often repeated. Educating our children honestly, empowers them to think critically and analyze the world around them.
Honesty in education means trusting our educators to provide an age appropriate curriculum that tackles increasingly complex issues as our children are ready for them.
As a school board member, I will encourage our teachers to create curriculums that include the diverse history of our country, rich in science and STEM, and literature that is diverse as well as age appropriate. I want your children and mine to have limitless opportunities to succeed in their futures in whatever they choose to study or find a career in.
